Tervetuloa blogiini!

Tämän blogin tarkoituksena on jakaa ideoita ja ajatuksia kodin sisustamisesta. Kirjoitan blogia suomeksi ja englanniksi. Suomi on sydämeni kieli, mutta koska sisustamisella tulee aina olemaan erityinen paikka sydämessäni, haluan jakaa ideoitani kaikille, yli kielirajojen. Joten mistä ikinä oletkaan kotoisin, olet todella tervetullut vastaanottamaan ja jakamaan ideoita sisustamisesta.

Welcome to my blog!
The purpose of this blog is to share ideas and thoughts about home decorating. I have chosen to write this blog in Finnish and in English. Finnish is the language of my heart but because home decorating also has very special place in my heart, I want to share my ideas with everybody, over the language boundaries. So wherever you are from, you are very welcome to receive and share ideas about home decoration.

Hotellivinkki / Hotel tip

Karvainen peitto / Furry blanket

Hei siellä! Haluan antaa teille kotimaan hotellivinkin. Mikäli sinulla on asiaa Tampereelle (tai vaikka asuisit kyseisessä kaupungissa), kannattaa ehdottomasti yöpyä Sokos Hotel Villassa. Nimensä mukaisesti Sokos Hotel Villassa on sisustettu paljon villaisilla asioilla.

Hi there! I wanna tip you about something. If you ever visit Tampere (Finland), you can't miss this amazing hotel, Sokos Hotel Villa. "Villa" means "wool" in Finnish and that is why there are a lot of woollen things in this hotel. We stayed one night in the biggest suite of the hotel and it was really worth the money. Just take a look at the pictures and enjoy:

Villakangassohva / Wool sofa

Portaat olohuoneeseen / Stairs to the living room

Villakangastyynyjä / Woollen pillows

Mummon Kammarin kutoma viltti / Blanket by Granny's Corner

Huoneessa olevat itsekudotut viltit ovat vapaaehtoisen vanhustyön, Mummon Kammarin, jäsenten tekemiä. Sokos hotel Villan ja Mummon Kammarin yhteistyön tuloksena kertynyt rahasumma mahdollisti usean nuorille tarkoitetun kesätyöpaikan yksinäisten vanhusten ulkoiluttajana ja arjen askareiden apua. Hienoa toimintaa!

The soft blankets in the rooms were made by members of Granny's Corner, a local center of seniorwork. The funds collected by the cooperation of the hotel and Granny's Corner made it possible to hire young people to help the elderly at Granny's Corner. Awesome!

Kotoisa divaani / Cosy divan

Yläkerran olohuoneesta / The living room upstairs

Olohuone / The living room

Huoneen kylpy/saunatilat / The bathroom and the sauna

Ihana matto / Lovely carpet

Kiva kahva / Nice handle

Makuuhuone alakerrassa / The bedroom downstairs

Terveiset Islannista / Greetings from Iceland

Suosittelen lämpimästä Hotel Glymuria kaikille, jotka aikovat matkata Islantiin.

Hi everyone, the pictures you are looking are from our honeymoon trip to Iceland. Such a beautiful and interesting country where ice and lava meet each other. The views in Iceland are literally breathtaking! And our own villa was super comfy. The private hot tub on the terrace was amazing: you could watch the sun go down and relax in the warm water.

I highly recommend Hotel Glymur to everyone who visits Iceland.

One day we visited the captial city of Iceland, Reykjavik. Reykjavik is a city with a friendly atmosphere. All those colourful little houses made the architecture of Iceland very interestig. Reykjavik's new concert hall and conference centre, Harpa, was a real architectural gem.

The city of Reykjavik also seemed to be a paradise for graffiti painters: beaufitul graffiti artworks could be found all around the city.

Kävimme tuolla hassunnäköisessa kahvilassa, Babalússa, syömässä aivan mahtavat jätti-isot suklaakeksit!

We visited that funny looking café Babalú: the giant chocholate chips cookies tasted awesome!

Kauniin sisutuksen lisäksi, 1x6 Guesthouse on ekologisesti hyvä vaihtoehto. Hostellin rakennukseen on nimittäin käytetty:
  • kierrätettyä puuta
  • paikallisille rannoille kerääntynyttä ajopuuta
  • vanhoja puisia kaapelirullia (josta oli esimerkiksi tehty meidän huoneen sängynpääty)
  • meren muovaamia luonnonkiviä
  • kierrätettyjä kylpyhuonelaattojen ylijäämiä

We spent our last night in Iceland near the airport in the 1x6 Gueshouse. I highly recommend the place if you are interested in unique and creative home decorating.

In addition to being a well-decorated and unique hostel, 1x6 Guesthouse is an ecological choice. To create this beaufitul house, they have used:
  • Recycled/old timber
  • Driftwood collected along the local shores
  • Recycled timber from giant cable drums (this can be seen in the headboard of our double bed)
  • Ocean shaped stones
  • Bathroom tiles, salvaged and regenerated from broken discarded collection sites

Häät part IV / Wedding part IV

"Cards" sign
Hei kaikki!

Hi all, this will be my final post about our wedding decorations. Hope you have liked my ideas! Next post will be about our honeymoon to Iceland. Or to be more precise, about home decoration ideas that I saw in Iceland.

So let's begin. We didn't have an "original" wedding guest book. Instead we had an old-fashioned mail box (bought at an internet auction for 10 euros) and old style postcards. The text on the frame says "Pick a card from a box and write your greetings to the new couple".

In the lower picture you can see the box for the wedding cards.

Nimesin maustepurkit DYMO-laitteen avulla.

In the evening we had candy and popcorn buffet. Our guests liked it very much. We had different kinds of candies in glass jars and popcorn in metal buckets. We also had popcorn seasonings by Kernel Season's. I bought small salt shakers and filled them with different seasonings. The labels on the salt shakers are made with DYMO-machine.

Teimme nuo suloiset karkkipussit yksinkertaisesti voimapaperin, saksien, liiman ja tulostimen avulla. Pussien taitteluohjeet löytyvät täältä. Karkkipussien takapuolelle teimme logon, jossa oli meidän etunimien ensimmäiset kirjaimet ja meidän yhteisen sukunimen ensimmäinen kirjain.

We made those cute little candy bags with the help of craft paper, scissors, glue and a printer. You can find the folding instructions for the bags here. On the back of the candy bag we made a logo that had the first letters of our names and the first letter of our new family name.

Ja kuten näet, booliastiana meillä toimi vanha maitotonkka. Näyttää kivalta ja on itse asiassa todella kätevä.

Lopuksi näytän teille vielä Vanhan Werstaan kukkakoristeluita. Halusin jotain yksinkertaista.

As you can see, we used a milk can as a punch bowl, looks nice and is actually really handy.

And finally I'll show you a couple of pictures of the flower decorations. I wanted to have something simple. I bought two kinds of flowers and put them in cans. I also put a piece of round doily paper under each can. So as you  can see, it doesn't have to cost much to make beuatiful wedding decorations. And the most important thing: you can recycle the cans.

I promised that I'll show you pictures of our wedding table setting. So here it comes! The only things that we used to decorate the tables were the table numbers, the menu cards and the wedding favors. For the table numbers we used IKEA's white frames, craft paper and doily paper. We simply printed the number on the craft paper and decorated the paper with white doily paper. We also used the doily paper to decorate the menu cards.

Käytimme voimapaperia myös hääkarkkipussien tekoon. Ohjeet löytyy täältä. Hääkarkkipussit toimivat kätevästi paikkamerkkeinä. Kirjoitimme DYMO-laitteella jokaisen vieraan nimen pussissa kiinniolevaan tagiin.

Emme käyttäneet ollenkaan kukkia ruokailutilan sisustamiseen. Ainut kukka ruokailutilassa oli minun herttainen hääkimppu. Kukan vaasina toimi tavallinen lasipurkki. Yksinkertainen on kaunista!

We also made those wedding favor bags of craft paper. Here are the instructions. The favor bags also functioned as place cards. We used DYMO machine to write the names of our guests on those white tags.

We didn't use any flowers to decorate the dining room. The only flower decoration in the dining room was my lovely wedding bouquet. A simple jar functioned as a vase for my bouquet. In addition, we had small pink flowers on our wedding cake. Simple is beaufitul!
